i am looking for a good quality picture of an Ockelbo Runic Stone- the one with gamers. We are at the end of a new exhibit creation about Viking times (Truso). One of the author's idea is to make a large "board game" zone. And this runic stone suits us well to be a huge printed back at the start of this zone.

So if anyone can help us, please send us this picture.... piotr.adamczyk@muzeum.elblag.pl

Of course, you'll be written as the author :)

Did you see this web site?

I've seen it, but its def. to small for a print unforunatelly.

I've sent a request to Helen Simonsson at the National Heritage board, she's in charge of the Swedish Runic Stones. Let's see if she possibly has a Picture.

Dear Mr Adamczyk,

The runestone has the entry number Gs 19 in Gästriklands runinskrifter, a part of the corpus publication Sveriges runinskrifter. This runestone was destroyed in a church fire in 1904, but there are some 18th and 19th century drawings and also an early photo from 1887.

The best reproduction for your purpose is probably a photo by Harald Faith-Ell, based on the photo from 1887 where the carvings have been filled in according to other combined sources (se corpus publication Gästriklands runinskrifter p.195 here: http://www.raa.se/runinskrifter/sri_gastrikland_b15_d01_text_1.pdf).

This photo ought to be found in ATA, the Antiquarian-Topographical Archives in Stockholm (http://www.raa.se/hitta-information/arkiv-och-bibliotek/), I recommend that you contact ATA directly: ata@raa.se.

A copy was made in 1931, private photo by Christer Hamp here: http://www.christerhamp.se/runor/gamla/gs/gs19.html.

With kind regards,

European Year of Cultural heritage 2018

Council and European Parliament have decided establishing a European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.

Cultural heritage encompasses resources from the past in a variety of forms and aspects.

The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness of European history and values and to strengthen a sense of European identity. At the same time, it draws attention to the opportunities offered by our cultural heritage, but also to the challenges it faces.

2017 International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development

The United Nation has designated 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

This is a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the contribution of sustainable tourism to development among public and private sector decision-makers and the public, while mobilizing all stakeholders to work together in making tourism a catalyst for positive change. The museums are very imoprtant actors in this respect!
